The first ever International Boxing Championships are being held at Chandigarh from 11/03/2009 to 15/03/2009. The tournament is known as AK Misra Intermational Boxing Championship. Previously it was known as AK Misra All India Boxing Championship and since the last 15 years, it was organized by the C`handigarh Boxing Association. This time also it is being organized by the Chandigarh Boxing Association under the auspicious of Indian Boxing Federation. Seven foreign teams from the Asian Circuit are participating in this tournament viz .Mauritious, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Malaysia and Turkmenistan. Along with them, nine of the best Indian teams are also participating. The Indian teams are: Haryana, RSPB, SSCB, Punjab, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, All India Police, Young Colts and Chandigarh. Eight boxers from each team can participate taking the total number of boxers to a maximum of 128.
Col. PK M Raja (Secy General, IBF) addressed the various coaches/managers of all the teams along with the other officials on 10th. evening, stressing the importance of fair play.

The Schedule for the opening day i.e. 11/03/2009 is given as under:
8 AM to 10 AM --- Weighing and Medical of all the participating boxers
2PM --- Opening Ceremony followed by bouts

International Competition Rules of AIBA

Venue for Competition: Skating Rink, Sector 10, Chandigarh

Weight Category: 48, 51, 54, 57, 60, 64, 69, 75, 81, 91 and + 91 Kgs
Competition Format:
Three rounds of two minutes with one minute rest between rounds.
